THE HOME REMODELING PROCESS
Remodeling Oceanside. Your home is a big deal, and most projects require many steps. Boyes & Son is the leading home builders in Oceanside and will help you be prepared.
Step 1: Make A Plan
Assess what you’d like to remodel and set priorities, says Tim Boyes. That includes deciding where to start, priorities for change and setting your time and budget needed to get the work done.
Step 2: Plan A Budget
Come up with plan and a final number on how much you’d like to comfortably spend on the remodeling. It may be a good idea to check out Remodeling Magazine’s annual Cost vs. Value Report to see how much an average home remodeling project cost. Consider budgeting an extra 10 to 20 percent for unexpected costs that may arise.
Step 3: Talk To An Insurance Agent
It might be a good idea to contact your insurance agent to help make sure you’re comfortable with the amount of coverage you have in place for your remodeling project. Once the upgrade is complete, you may also want to consider evaluating your coverage again so you can make sure it fits your needs. Don’t hesitate to contact Boyes & Son for assistance
Step 4: Secure Permits & Materials
Typically required in many municipalities, permits can also be critical to helping avoid having to redo work. Boyes & Son will check your municipality’s latest regulations, since inspection rules will vary in Oceanside, and surrounding areas.
Once we have the permits sorted out, we will want to start ordering the necessary materials for remodeling like lumber, drywall, new windows and doors, etc.
Step 5: Start Demolition
Once all the materials arrive and have been inspected, it’s demolition time. If space is being added, then framing takes place. If walls within are being moved, it may be a good time to potentially install any new windows and doors. Remoeling projects vary and we will be there every step of the way.
Step 6: Work Behind The Walls
This is now time for the critical work behind walls, above ceilings and below floors. Plumbing, heating, electrical, and air conditioning rough-ins, subfloors, and insulation. After that, patch, hang drywall, tape and sand for smooth exterior surfaces.
Step 7: Work Behind The Walls
Sometimes we may want to finish flooring first, while others times we may prefer to prime and paint before working on the floor (to help prevent spills from getting on new flooring). The order may also depend upon your the various schedules.
Step 8: Install Cabinetry
Now that walls and floors are in, the remodeling begins to resemble the dream home you imagined. Cabinets are typically installed next, with upper cabinets going in before lower ones.
Step 9: Final Touches
Now it’s time to add the last details and decorations. Painting, backsplashes, light fixtures, floor sealing, hardware and any other touch-ups. Once remodeling is complete, be sure to take a moment to enjoy your new home, and maybe even start dreaming of your next project! Boyes & Son has been remodeling homes in Oceanside and surrounding cities for generations.
